Tuckaleechee Caverns
Visit the highest rated cavern in the Eastern US! Discovered in the mid 19th century, these caverns were opened to the public in 1953. On one end of these caverns, you will find the “Big Room” which is the largest cavern room open the public in the Eastern US. These caverns are also home to the tallest underground waterfall in the East at 210 feet. Another interesting fact about Tuckaleechee Caverns is that it is home to the most sensitive seismograph system on the planet and is monitored by the United States military Department of Defense and the United States Geological Survey. Real-time, worldwide, earthquake and nuclear activity is displayed inside the welcome center.
